March 2014 BIrchbox & Ipsy Review.

Oh my gosh guys, I really suck at this! I know it’s April and I’m just now posting my March review. Oh well. Well here ya go.

Let’s start with Ipsy this time. Ipsy is a monthly beauty subscription box. Each month you get 4-6 beauty products inside a makeup bag. If you’d like to subscribe to Ipsy, I’d appreciate you using my referral link. It arrives each month in a pink bubble mailer!

This month’s theme was ‘Destination Beauty’. I don’t have a picture of the theme card and I’m too lazy to go take one. But you don’t really care anyways do you? You’re after the goodies. So here ya go:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Get Ready. A perfect mauvy-pink perfect for anytime really. Love that it wasn’t a bright pink or red. Sad that it was sample sized (but so cute).

NYX Love in Rio Eye Shadow. Nice neutral three shade pallet. This should get some use.

Chella Indigo Blue Eyeliner. This stuff applies nicely and stays on forever. Too bad it’s blue so I won’t use it. Hopefully I can find someone who will use it! (Ahem, send me black eyeliner only Ipsy!)

Pixi Beauty Flawless Primer. Y’all know how I feel about primers/bb creams. No thanks! Straight to the giveaway pile.

I didn’t care for the design of the bag this month. It is a designed from a piece of artwork. Abstract art isn’t my thing.

Now on to Birchbox.

Birchbox is a beauty subscription box for $10/month. If you’d like to sign up please CLICK HERE to use my referral code and get signed up! This month’s theme was ‘Spring Forward’.

As always the content card with prices:

So here’s what I got:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Air Repair Rescue Balm All-Purpose Skin Salve and Lip Balm. Thicker, vaseline-like balm. Seems to work nicely.

Previse Hydromilk. Haven’t tried it. It says you’re just supposed to slather it on.

Keims Cleanshine Energizing Shampoo. I’d rather not get shampoo in these boxes but that’s OK, I’ll give it a try. Too bad it didn’t come with the matching condition, I like to use them in as a set.

stila lip glaze in Raspberry Sorbet. Really pretty pink color, perfect for Springtime. The packaging remind me a syringe, maybe that’s the nurse in me? Haha.

Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream. Seriously guys, I’m one primer/bb cream away from a mental break! I have so many and I’m sick of them.

Overall both beauty boxes this month were just OK. They weren’t great but they weren’t bad. They had really neat items (bareMinerals lipstick, stila gloss), some OK products, and some meh products (Pixi primer, Jergens bb cream). As usual I can’t wait for next (er well this) month’s boxes.

  1. It is funny to me how I fill out the Ipsy profile but still I get weird things that I did not think I would get! I have found homes for everything but the false eyelashes……I do love trying the new products and this last bag was pretty spot on for what I like. I agree with the last bag though–it was not my favorite.

    • I have a love-hate relationship with both. Birchbox is much more random and all beauty product related. With Ipsy there are much less variation with the bags. Which isn’t a bad thing. Ipsy is also much more makeup related.

  2. Brandi, I love your reviews post. I know very little about makeup and often just purchase products at Target. I have always thought about trying some of these make up trial boxes like Birch and Ipsy. I think it is always great to try the product first, once I get out of school I think they’ll have my subscription. Have you heard of Julep? They do nail, eye, and lipstick I think, but your first box is free. I love blue eye liner. 🙂 And are those full size bottles that Birch sends you or are they sample sizes? I think this post is great and will definitely have to come back and spend some more time on your site! Keep up the good work!

    • I honestly purchase most of my everyday makeup from WalMart/Target. It’s really fun to receive new things to try each month. Birchbox generally sends you sample sized products (the stila gloss is full sized), Ipsy however sends out more full sized. And thanks, I really enjoyed your blog also!

  3. I got my second Ipsy bag this month and like you I wasn’t a huge fan of the bag. I got that lipstick though and I love it! Good texture and color! I also got the primer and I like it well enough but I haven’t had a million of them like you have. I got a weird blue nail polish though too, that’s like textured? Idk – I would have most definatly prefered the eyeshadow or even eyeliner to that nail polish!
